Atlanta Dogwood Festival

by Caitlin Stuckey

The annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival returns to Piedmont Park from April 12th to 14th, 2024. This festival has been a fundamental part of Atlanta for 88 years as of 2024. It showcases all works of art throughout the park, most of which are for purchase to support local artists. There are also musical performances throughout the weekend and many food trucks to enjoy.

Atlanta High School Art Exhibition

The Atlanta Dogwood Festival prides itself on celebrating art from all ages, so every year the Atlanta High School Art Exhibition  sets up near the 12th Street entrance. This program allows young artists to gain real-world experience showcasing their art and compete for scholarships and art supplies. If you attend the festival,  be sure to visit the exhibition and support high school artists!

Artist Market

The Dogwood Festival hosts one of the most diverse, juried art festivals in the country; it consists of over 200 artists from throughout the United States. Artists are spread out within the park in booths, you can walk around and shop for amazing pieces of art from local artists.

Other Attractions

Coca-Cola Main Stage:  This year, a Jimmy Buffett tribute show will be the headliner for the festival on Saturday, April 13, at 7:30 pm. The performance is open to all festival visitors, but there will be options for you to buy a VIP ticket to enjoy more Buffett-related commodities. In addition, there will be musical performances from many other bands (that have yet to be announced) throughout the weekend.

Mimosa 5k: The Mimosa 5k happens the morning of Saturday the 13th at 8 am in Piedmont Park. The race starts at the corner of Charles Allen Drive and 10th Street and ends at Piedmont Park. There is early registration available, but you can sign up on-site for $45. All participants that are 21+ can enjoy a mimosa after the race at the mimosa toast.

Disc Dogs:  A Dogwood Festival fan-favorite event is the annual dog disc competition hosted by The Greater Atlanta Dog & Disc Club. This competition astonishes spectators with spectacular tricks performed by even more spectacular dogs. Next year, The Atlanta Dogwood Festival will have freestyle and toss-and-fetch competitions on Saturday and Sunday.
