Being Extra with Extras

Being Extra with Extras

Nearing the end of July we all have the thought that it’s time to go back to school. For some, coming back to school is exciting, but not all of us. For most of us, coming back to school is something that we don’t look forward to. Getting ready with school supplies, planning that first day of school outfit, and finally fixing that crazy summer sleep schedule; it all comes down to that first day. The first two months of school have come to pass, and the season is starting to change. By now, extracurricular activities are steadily gearing up for a good year – some of which you may want to be a part of. Do you know about all the extracurricular activities available here at Tucker?

Tucker High School has a diverse student body, and with that comes a wide variety of extracurricular activities. Are you interested in playing a sport? Coach Heyen is the teacher to talk to, with connections to all coaches for the sports here at Tucker: volleyball, football, soccer, flag football, wrestling, swim, baseball, track, basketball, cross country, softball, cheer, tennis, you name it! There was a wonderful display of our sports here at Tucker during the pep rally 9/22/23, so hopefully you took some inspiration from them! If you are musically inclined, speak to Mr. Mosley about joining the band and performing spectacular halftime shows every Friday night.

For those of you thinking “I’m not athletic enough to do these types of activities”, there’s activities for you too! We have other clubs dealing with academics and student life: SkillsUSA, TSA (Technology Student Association), VEX Robotics, Beta club, NHS (National Honors Society), Math club, FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America), FBLA(Future Business Leaders of America), Reading Bowl, Maker Space, STAR(Students Together Assisting Refugees), SGA(Student Government Association), GSA (Gay Student Alliance), HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), HoPe (Hispanic Organization Promoting Education), Habitat for Humanity, Anime Club, MSA (Muslim Student Association), College Magazine, SNHS (Science National Honors Society), International club, and Creator’s Club.

Many people don’t realize the benefits of joining these extracurricular activities, but they’re super helpful. Participating in one of these activities will allow you to build relationships, keep your afternoons busy, and have fun; participating may even open doors for scholarships. As you can see, there are many opportunities for you to have fun after school. If you are interested in any of these extracurricular activities, contact the teachers below to get more information.

You never know how far participating in extracurricular activities can take you, so join one. It’s never too late!
