The Ultimate Playlist

By Gavin Schauble with Commentary from Herbert Watson

This playlist attempts to capture the impact of African American music throughout American History, primarily the 20th and 21st centuries. Much of African Americans' contributions to music is not properly recognized because it is co oped by white artists who often took credit for their work, and got significantly more recognition for it. As time went on though the music kept evolving and branching off into many different directions, and while making this playlist we tried to bring together many of the most important genres, songs, and artists onto a single playlist. However, even though we’ve worked for an extensive amount of time this list isn’t fully completed, and if you would like to add suggestions, send them to the magazine's email, thscollagemagazine@gmail.com.

Commentary was given by Tucker High School Social Studies, American History, and former African American History teacher, Mr. Watson. We interviewed Mr. Watson in a separate article, so if you are interested in more of his background we encourage you to read that article as well.
