April TOTM – Ms. Moin

Michaya Victor

Ms. Najma Moin, the April Teacher of the Month, is a remarkable educator who brings joy and positivity into the lives of her students. Aside from being a teacher, Ms. Moin is also a co-chair of the Science department at THS and the sponsor for the National Science Honor Society. Daily, Ms. Moin shows her leadership, optimism, and love for her students through her dedication and enthusiasm for teaching.

Ms. Moin has been teaching for over twenty years. She has taught Gifted Accelerated Chemistry and Physical Science at Tucker High School for the past two years. She has lots of teaching experience, having taught in India and the Middle East for several years before teaching in the United States.

One of the ways that Ms. Moin brings positivity into her class is through her “positivity jar.” When her students are having a rough day or challenging time, she will make them pick up a positive affirmation from the jar to encourage them. Ms. Moin pours her optimism and passion into her lessons and strives to interact with each student to help them succeed.

Ms. Moin enjoys engaging with her students and helping them find confidence in their skills. Seeing their smiles makes Ms. Moin want to come to school every day. Although, at times, the job can require some patience, seeing her students succeed makes it worthwhile for Ms. Moin.

As a child, Ms. Moin lived up to her first name, which means “morning star,” by shining in the lives of everyone around her. She was always sociable and enjoyed starting conversations with her family and friends, and even with strangers. A dedicated student, Ms. Moin was always interested in science and math. She often helped her classmates with anything they were struggling with.

When she is not teaching, Ms. Moin enjoys gardening and building relationships. Ms. Moin prides herself on her vast collection of different plants and being a people person.

Ms. Moin wants her students to not only gain scientific knowledge from her class but also critical life skills. She desires that her students believe in themselves and their abilities to solve problems. At the end of the day, Ms. Moin wants her students to realize the tools they already have within themselves to solve the problems that present themselves in their everyday lives.
